The Ambassadors for Sustainable TransITION (AMBITION) project consortium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, has conducted an outreach session on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for students at Kumasi High School (KUHISS).
AMBITION, an EU-funded initiative, is a strategic alliance comprising five leading European universities and two African institutions specialising in science and technology. The project’s mission is to cultivate the next generation of sustainability leaders, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive global progress.

Ms. Mavis Aframea-Asamoah, a member of the AMBITION team, provided an overview of sustainable development. She defined it as “a holistic approach to growth and progress that aims to balance economic, social, and environmental needs.”
Emphasising the importance of intergenerational equity, she stated, “The goal is to ensure that we can meet our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.”
She encouraged the students to champion the SDGs: “You are the future presidents, scientists, policymakers, engineers, doctors. Through this initiative, we are here to share ideas on how we can transition to sustainability. But it doesn’t stop here, you will also share this knowledge with others. Everyone has a part to play, and together, we can achieve so much more.”
Ms. Aframea-Asamoah guided the students through the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting their interconnected nature and global significance.
Caleb, a science student at KUHISS, shared his vision for 2030: “I see a globe that ensures clean energy and proper urban planning, which will promote effective drainage systems and create a safe, healthy environment.”
Delali, a Science 3 student, envisioned: “a beautifully planned city equipped with essential infrastructure, green spaces, efficient public transport, and housing where innovation and energy conservation go hand in hand to improve the quality of life for all.”
